Commissioning a piece of furniture is a wonderful way of enriching your home and life. The process is simple and typically occurs in three phases: Conversation, Design, and Construction

The first step towards a commissioned piece is a conversation between you and I. We will discuss what your needs are, what materials and design features you love, budget, and a timeline for the piece(s). This conversation can be on the phone or in person. Sometimes I travel to a client’s location to see the space a piece will occupy and other times they come to my shop to discuss a commission and see how I work. By the end of the conversation we will have answered some basic design questions, chosen the materials to be used and settled on a rough budget range and project timeline. Prior to moving on to the design phase I will provide you with an initial proposal and take a small deposit for the first sets of drawings.

The next step is the design process. In this phase I take all my notes from our initial conversation and turn that inspiration into a series of draft designs. Typically, I aim to provide clients with 2-3 options to consider in my initial proposal. We review those designs and settle on one for the project. The chosen design may undergo a series of revisions before we settle on a final draft. Once we reach a final approved design we can finalize the costs and timeline for the project for the contract. Once I receive the signed contract and deposit I will purchase the materials and begin to craft your piece.

The final phase of the process is the creation of the piece. Over the course of days, weeks or months I transform a stack of rough materials into a finished piece of decorative art. I take pride in using only the finest materials and the best techniques possible to create something that will last for generations.
